Replacement of Guardhouses

Replacement of Guardhouses

Andre Construction was contracted to demolish two existing guardhouses and construct one new, state-of-the-art building. The existing guardhouses were from the 1950's and contained hazardous building materials, and their security infrastructure was incompatible with modern security systems.

Work included abatement and removal of the existing guardhouses, installation of new security fences and gates, and reconfiguration of roadways. We self-performed the concrete work, and installed doors, hardware, and millwork for the new building—all while keeping the site security intact.

The Challenges

The project presented several complexities and constraints:

  • Maintaining security was of the utmost importance.

  • The guardhouse had to remain functional during the project, requiring a temporary facility during demolition and construction.

  • The existing structures contained hazardous materials that needed careful abatement and special disposal.

  • The roadway to the site needed to be reconfigured to allow vehicles to move around the new guardhouse.

  • The complexity of the project required management of eighteen different subcontractors.

The Solutions

Prior to starting construction, our team developed a construction sequence plan to maintain constant, secure access to the property and minimize disruptions. We managed this complex schedule throughout the project to ensure demolition, construction, and infrastructure upgrades aligned seamlessly.

With a plan in place, our team then constructed a temporary guardhouse and fencing at the entrance to the site. These structures allowed the site to remain operational and maintain strict security until the new guardhouse was complete.

We moved onto the demolition of the two outdated guardhouses, adhering to strict abatement and hazardous material disposal protocols. Our team provided onsite oversight, which ensured all precautions were taken to ensure the safety of workers and environmental compliance.

The new guardhouse was designed with high-end architectural siding, masonry, and large glass panels on the north elevation for improved visibility and aesthetics. Interior finishes featured extensive millwork to provide a professional and durable working environment. After completing a portion of the excavation and demolition, Andre Construction self-performed all concrete work, door, hardware, and millwork installation to the highest of standards.

To reinforce access control, our team ensured that the new guardhouse security systems were seamlessly integrated with the site's updated locks and doors, and installed new security gates and fencing. Additionally, we upgraded the guardhouse exterior lighting and electrical services to suit the new facility and increase visibility.

Andre Construction then reconfigured the roadway into the site to direct vehicles around the new guardhouse instead of between the two previous buildings. This greatly improved traffic flow and security.

Throughout the project, our team coordinated with eighteen subcontractors to successfully deliver the new guardhouse on schedule. The upgrades significantly enhanced the security infrastructure at the site, ensuring that it meets modern security and operational standards.

This project exemplifies Andre Construction’s ability to navigate complex, high-security projects while maintaining operational continuity and achieving high-quality construction results.
