For over a century, Andre Construction has helped build Eastern Ontario. From crafting Kingston’s finest homes in the early 1900s, to maintaining hydroelectric dams today, our long history is marked by adaptability and continued innovation.
We are a unionized general contracting firm that specializes in industrial, commercial, institutional, and municipal construction projects. Our team is renowned for our innovative approach and our ability to find solutions to any challenge.
We hold ourselves to the highest standard and work with the most experienced consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers on every project we take on. Working with the best in the industry achieves the best results.
1899 - 1980
Our founder, Alexander Andre, began building many of the fine homes we see in downtown Kingston today. After the first World War, Mr. Andre's services were very much in demand. His son, Thomas Alexander Andre, a carpenter by trade, joined his father, and they continued to build high quality homes, which further enhanced their already excellent reputation.
In 1946 Tom's two sons, Ken and Jack joined their father, and the firm of T. A. Andre & Sons Ltd. was founded. Andre Lumber and Bay Equipment Company soon followed. Ken Andre expanded the company from housing into industrial and institutional construction, extending operations from Prescott to Trenton.
Tom Andre was a founding father of the Kingston Builders Exchange, as KCA was known then. Both Ken and Jack are past presidents, Jack in 1953 and Ken in 1963.
From 1950 to 1970, we completed 14 major contracts at Queen's University alone and several others for the Hotel Dieu, General and St. Mary's of the Lake Hospitals, and for the area's school boards.
In 1978, ownership was transferred and the company's name was changed to T. A. Andre & Sons (Ontario) Limited.
1978-2000
For the next twenty years, under the current ownership, we expanded our industrial client base along the 401 from Trenton to the Quebec border, building new manufacturing facilities for multinational consumer goods corporations, the automotive industry, industrial, mining and pulp & paper clients and municipal clients. Many of the new plant builds were completed on a design build or lump sum basis.
2000-2010
We continued industrial new builds across Eastern Ontario and expanded services into renewable energy and the municipal water and sewage sectors. During this period we continued to be active with hospitals, St Lawrence College, Queens.
2010-2019
Our focus remained industrial with a shift to renewable energy—hydroelectricity, ethanol, and solar projects across Eastern Ontario. We now have a major and recurring book of business within the hydroelectric sector in Ontario, and have completed major concrete work for ethanol and fossil fuel manufacturers in Eastern Ontario. As always, we maintain our presence in the local Kingston market with several major projects within the limits of Kingston.
Most recently, we’ve updated our name and our image to better position us for another century of great work. With a nod to our past and a clear view of the future, Andre Construction remains committed to building forward.
