Project Overview
Andre Construction was contracted to replace an aging roofing system at a power generating station. The comprehensive upgrade included replacement of decades-old roofing, drainage components, handrails, and walkways, as well as concrete rehabilitation. The team also updated grounding at the site to reflect new grounding guidelines.
As lead contractor, Andre Construction was responsible for all demolition, concrete rehabilitation, and forming concrete replacement, while maintaining access and safe site conditions. They oversaw a team of subcontractors who completed the roof membrane installation, grounding, drain installation, and abatement.
Challenges
Prior to construction, the team discovered leaks in an adjacent building, which was outside the original project scope. With the extended roof work, further abatement and concrete rehabilitation was also required. These additions impacted the project budget and timeline.
Project scheduling posed another challenge as the roof replacement work overlapped with other projects. Careful coordination was essential to avoid conflicts and ensure safe, continuous site access for all trades.



Solutions
Andre Construction took a proactive approach to risk management by performing a detailed pre-construction drainage survey. They identified the underlying causes of poor roof performance and additional leakage, allowing the team to adjust work sequencing before beginning demolition.
Prior to starting work, the team constructed a temporary vapor barrier system to act as a short-term roof. This system protected the site from weather exposure and allowed Andre Construction to carry out interior activities while roof work progressed ahead. Bird-prevention measures were also installed to prevent potential safety issues and unnecessary damage to the site.
Results
Despite the expanded scope, the project was completed two months ahead of schedule, demonstrating Andre Construction’s adaptability and planning discipline.
The new roofing and drainage systems provide long-term protection for critical plant structures and will extend the life of the generating station.
The project was completed without any safety incidents and all deliverables met quality and workmanship expectations.

The success of the roof replacement highlighted the value of early diagnostic work and integrated scheduling in complex, multi-contract environments.
